NASHVILLE, Tenn. – JUNE 14, 2016 – A favorite North Nashville pie bakery, Sweet Creations, announced today it has expanded its operations and relocated to a renovated space on historic Jefferson Street totaling 1,130 square feet. The expansion will double the bakery’s capacity and create at least 42 permanent full-time jobs to stimulate further economic development in the area. The $240,000 renovation and expansion was led by general contractor Music City Electrical Engineering, LLC, project manager Kerry McKibbens, and architect Jimmy Larkin.
Sweet Creations is the recipient of a $630,000 low-interest loan over three years awarded by the Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Community Development Corporation (FABCDC) to contribute to the revitalization of the community. In October 2015, the FABCDC received a $800,000 grant by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to invest in an existing business and selected Sweet Creations due to its momentum and growth potential.
The new location at 942 Jefferson Street includes a custom designed storefront and commercial kitchen that will double the bakery’s capacity. Sweet Creations has hired five employees including a store manager, interim sales manager and food production manager with plans for additional hires as they expand their wholesale division.
“Our goal is to empower the community and promote self-sufficiency through the creation of skilled jobs,” says Ms. Barbara Toms, co-owner of Sweet Creations. The bakery is committed to employing workers who may have a criminal history and have difficulty finding stable job opportunities in the community.
Additionally, Sweet Creations partnered with photography and graphic design students at Nossi College of Art to create a refreshed brand identity and images for its website.
Sweet Creations plans to expand its wholesale business targeting discount general merchandise providers, regional and national grocery stores, convenience stores, local markets, restaurants and caterers.
Sweet Creations is the only retail pie bakery in Nashville specializing in sweet pies and offers several varieties including its famous pecan, chocolate chip pecan, sweet potato, apple, peach and jus’ (like chess). The all-natural pies are preservative-free and have a distinctively Southern taste. In 2013, Sweet Creations’ pecan pie and was named one of the Best Pies in America by Travel + Leisure magazine. In August 2014, Sweet Creations was mentioned in a scene in the CBS television series Unforgettable.

A grand opening celebration and “pie slicing” ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 25th at 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Sweet Creations, 942 Jefferson Street, featuring pie samples, Kijiji’s coffee, bakery tours, and photo opportunities with Herman Patton, aka “The Pie Man” and co-owner of Sweet Creations.
